It is the headquarters of the district. It has a population of 366,956 agglomeration (6 to 8 lakhs). Nizamabad is the 10th largest city, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Nizamabad Town is one of 36 mandals in the Nizamabad district. It is located 171 kilometres (106 mi) north of state capital, Hyderabad.

History

Nizamabad was formerly known as Induru and Indrapuri. It was ruled by the king Indra Vallabha Panthya Varsha Indra Som, of the Rashtrakuta Dynasty, in the 8th century, and took its name from him. In 1905 the railway line between Secundrabad and Manmad was constructed. The railway station was named after then ruler of the Nizam state Nizam-ul-Mulk as Nizamabad. The railway line connects Hyderabad and Mumbai. It is like North-South corridor. Has the distance of 161 km (100 mi) from Hyderabad and 640 km (400 mi) from Mumbai.
The Nizam Sagar dam was constructed in the year 1923 across the Manjira River at the village of (Achampeta) Achampet. It irrigates 250,000 acres (1,000 km2; 390 sq mi) of land in Nizamabad district.
Nizamabad is in the north of Andhra Pradesh in the district of Nizamabad. It has many towns like Bodhan, Armuru, Kamareddy and Banswada, In Bodhan town there is Nizam Sugar Factory. In early years it was the biggest in the Asian continent. Bodhan is a town with a mixture of people from many cultural and religious backgrounds, consisting primarily of Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims as well as Christians and other religious communities. Once it was the capital at the time of the Rashtrakuta Empire.
The historic decision for formation of Andhra Pradesh was announced by the Prime Minister Pandit Nehru on 5th March 1956 in Nizamabad when he came here to inaugurate Bharat Sevak Samaj Conference. It was in this conference that Pandit Nehru announced Government decision to form Andhra Pradesh by the merger of Telangana Region in Andhra State;……
He, however, clarified that he knew the sentiments of Telangana people for a separate state so he warned Andhra People that if they fail to gain the confidence of Telangana people then it was always open for the people of Telangana to seek separation like in a marriage. But his sane advice was not followed by Andhra Rulers in implementing the safeguards given in 1956 to Telangana People.
Recently, Telangana University was established at Nizamabad, which serves the three districts of Adilabad, Medak and Nizamabad.

Geography

Nizamabad is located at 18°40′38″N 78°6′11″E.[1] It has an average elevation of 395 m (1,296 ft). Climate is Tropical Wet and Dry with most rainfall from June to October.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Nizamabad had a population of 286,956. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Nizamabad has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 55%. In Nizamabad, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Manjeera Riverbed

Manjeera River runs through the district by covering, Nizamsagar, Banswada, Birkur, Pothangalu(laxmikanth), Kandakurthi and all the way to Pochampadu into Godavari river.

Tourist Places

POCHARAM PROJECT
Pocharam reservoir is located on Hyderabad-Nizamsagar road. This was constructed on the river Aler the dam site is considered to be beautiful picnic spot attracting many visitors from Hyderabad.
SRI RAM SAGAR PROJECT
Sri Ram Sagar project is constructed at Pochampad Village across the River Godhavari. This is also a place of Tourist interest. It is on beside the NH7 and is 45 Kms from District HQs and 25 KMs from Armoor town and 15 KMs from Nirmal town (Adilabad Distrct).

ALISAGAR:

Alisagar Reservoir is situated at a distance of 13Km from Nizamabad city which is another important picnic spot, close to Nizamabad urban. A beautiful garden raised here attract picnickers from Nizamabad city.
Nizamabad Fort was developed on an original temple of Ram Mandir constructed by Raghunath Das, who had also constructed a big tank which,
is the main water source for Nizamabad urban till today. Later the temple was developed into a fort. Alisagar is the beautiful garden developed by Nizam of Hyderabad. This is under the control of Irrigation Department as the Garden is under the bund of Alisagar Tank maintained by Irrigation Department. The Garden is in (33) acres with fountains and has lot of flowers, Deer Park, Tree House. The Garden is very poorly maintained due to insufficient funds and non-
availability of technical no-how in garden maintenance. There is an island inside the Alisagar lake. Boating facility in the tank has been introduced recently. About 1000 to 2000 people visit the Alisagar garden on Sundays. Alisagar is situated about (10) K.Ms. away from the Nizamabad city and (2) K.Ms. from Nizamabad-Basar route. There is tremendous potential for religious, amusement and eco-tourism here.

There is a Old Guest House over looking the lake these to be improved.
NIZAMSAGAR There is a beautiful garden under Nizamsagar Project. This is in the Sangareddy - Nanded - Akola Road about (150) K.Ms. from Hyderabad. There is a garden, swimming pool and Guest Houses are all in poor maintenance. During rainy season many people visit from Karnataka, Maharashtra and neighboring districts like Medak, Karimnagar and Hyderabad. Boating facility has been introduced.

YAMCHA YAmcha village in Nizamabad district is just (4) K.Ms. from Basar temple on the Bank of Godavari. It is on the road side of Hyderabad - Basar route. There is a big Drinking Water Scheme constructed under the centrally sponsored Water Supply scheme provide drinking water to (77) villages. There is a summer storage tank storing water from Godavari.
NIZAMABAD FORT: 1)There is a Jagannath Temple at Quilla (port) on the south-west corner of Nizamabad city. This port is said to be built by Rashtraputha kings in the 10th Centaury. At top the Quilla at about 300' height there is a Rama temple built by Ramdas Mantra of Chatrapathi Sivaji. This is the huge temple with Corridors, Mantaps, Mahamantaps and large Kalyana Mandapam of about 2000 sq,feet. Area.
The Rama temple can be develop as a place of religious importance. TTD has been requested to help under Annamacharya project. The Collector has also taken the Executive Officer, TTD for inspection of site on 5.7.2001. The temple has been renovated recently, the stair case to Garba Gudi has been constructed. The temple is adjoining the Jail which is presently host in the port. The temple is under management of local committee and should be handed over to Endowment Department for further Development.
The old prison was situated in this fort. In that then freedom fighters (like Dasharathi Rangacharya, Vattikota Alwar Swamy) against then ruler Nizam were imprisoned. At that time the poet Dasharathi Rangacharya wrote "Telangana Na Koti Ratanala Veena Teegalu Tempi Agnilo Vesinaavu, Kanaraadu Nee Vanti Prabhuvu" poetry in Telugu on the walls with coal.
2) The waste expense place below the port can be develop into a beautiful garden. An open air auditorium can be constructed for cultural performances, Musical fountains can be established drawing water from nearby Raghunath Tank. The port can be eliminated using focus lights, from the hill very beautiful view of Nizamabad city and hence view point can be developed.

SARAGANPUR TEMPLE: Sarangapur is temple is located (7) K.Ms. from North-East of Nizamabad city abating Alisagar. There is a Hanuman temple located on a hill top. These temple is constructed by Ramdas. This temple as 1400 acres of land. There is a tremendous scope for develop site on hillock along with Alisagar Project. (10) acres of land on Hillock is being developed into a garden. Thereis (33) acres of land available near Sarangapur that can be developed into Eco-tourism by providing slab trails for walking.
MALLARAM : Mallaram forest is located (7) K.Ms. of South-West Nizamabad city. In the forest there is very suitable to develop for Eco-tourism. There is small hillock on which hut is being built. I have requested Conservator of Forest to provide Wooden / Cement benches near the click over looking the Mallaram cheruvu. He has been asked to make railings, statues of wild animals and trail through the forest for hiking. I also requested him to develop a small crocodile form / Deer park.
MUSHROOM ROCK: MALLARAM FOREST
A rock formed in the shape of Mushroom will attract the tourists in Mallaram forest is 7 KMs from Nizamabad urban. The Meghana Dental hospital is also situated in Mallaram.
NIBACHALA KSHETHRAM: BHEEMGAL
Limabadri gutta (Nimbachala Kshethram) was a piligrim centre near Bheemgal towm. It is 53 KMs from Nizamabad city. One of the oldest temples in the State.

Transport

The nearest airports are at Hyderabad 162 km (101 mi) and Warangal 230 km (140 mi). Nizamabad is connected by rail to Hyderabad and Mumbai section, station code NZB.

Road transport

Nizamabad urban is well connected by road ways with APSRTC for common man with a bus for every 15 minutes to Capital city of Andhra Pradesh(Hyderabad) Volvo service currently stays witheld due to road construction of NH-7 from dichpally to kamareddy. NH7 is the largest National Highway in India having more than 2,900 KM. It connects Varanasi in North India and Kanyakumari in South India is a North-South corridor. Bus service is one of the important methods of transportation in Nizamabad. NH-16 passes through Nizamabad, it is near the National Highway No. 7, which goes from Kanyakumari in the south to Varanasi in north India, and the new North South Corridor of NHDP. National Highway No. 16 starts from Nizamabad city and passes through Karimnagar to Jagadalpur in the state of Chhattisgarh.[3]

Rail transport

NIZAMABAD (Station Code: NZB) is a station located on the Kachiguda-Manmad section of Hyderabad (HYB) Division of South Central Railway (SCR). Nizamabad has rail connectivity with Bhopal, Gwalior, Manmad, Aurangabad, Nanded, Parbhani, Parli Vaijnath, Latur, Osmanabad, Gangakhed, Mudkhed, Adilabad, Nagpur, Basar, Nizamabad, Nasik, Mumbai, Pune, Daund, Mahbubnagar, Kurnool, Kadapa, Renigunta, Tirupati, Katpadi, Erode, Madurai and Kachiguda (HYB). Ajanta Express between Kachiguda and Manmad is the most prestigious train passing through this station. Earlier there used to ply Ellora Express exclusively between Manmad and Nizamabad. This train has been cancelled during Gauge Conversion Process.
From Hyderabad to Nizamabad NH7 can be made as express highway in this district there is an ashram(hospital) which is organized by Manthena Satyanarayana.It is nature cure hospital located in varni mandal, Akbarnagar village.
